5Outstanding home espresso machine

I think this is one of the most highly regarded machines at this price point. Do a Google search on it and there is a wealth of information available on it. Note that there was an "Andreja" before there was an "Andreja Premium", so be sure you are looking at info for this current version. I'm the first review here, but this machine has been around for awhile and the current version is superb. The short story - this is one excellent machine, both in appearance and in function. I could not be happier with using it and its performance. It's just a dream to me.I came from a Rancilio Silva, a very competent machine in its own regard - after 9 years of proving to myself that "I really would use an espresso machine." Well, that ran a little long, but moving to the Andreja has been terrific. The Silvia is a single boiler machine and the step up to the heat exchanger variety (which Andreja is) was huge. I had pretty much mastered Silva to produce pretty good espresso, but a week with Andreja and I am making espresso in a very repeatable way - something that was very difficult with the Silvia. The primary reason is the consistent temperature and pressure afforded by the heat exchanger (HX) boiler and E-61 brewhead. Unlike the single boiler Silvia, there is no waiting for steam to come up or the temperature to recover - it's pretty much there all the time and read. The most there is to do is to do a cooling flush when the machine's been sitting awhile, you just push the brew lever up and wait until the water stops sputtering (it's hot enough to flash to steam - you don't want to brew with that extra hot water!) and you're ready to go.The steam is an excellent dry and consistent steam - microfrothing is a big improvement as well. You can make a big frothy head if you like, but I like nothing but smooth creamy steamed milk and Andreja is totally competent at it.As long as you have the water in the tank to do it, you can continually pull shots and steam milk with no delay waiting for the boiler to recover or heat up. Single boiler machine like the Siliva must heat up to steam temperature so there is waiting after pulling the shot for steam to make up, or if you steam first and brew afterwards, you're still waiting on the temperature to stabilize. The HX boiler eliminates this completely. There's a continual supply of water and steam to make your drinks when you want them. Making multiple drinks for guests was a chore on Silvia - no more with Andreja! In many ways I wish I had upgraded to this machine sooner, but on the other hand, experience with Silvia has been very valuable in understanding the process and makes me appreciate Andreja all the more.Having said that, this would still be an ideal entry into espresso. The machine is very consistent about its behavior and when you understand the relationship of grind and tamping and brew time, you'll go a long way to great espresso. If you are entering home espresso with a machine like this - consider that you will have to spend at least $600-900 for a grinder. I am currently using a Rancilio Rocky, and it's barely able to make the adjustments (it's both stepped, and at the bottom end of acceptablilty for good espresso grinding) so an upgrade is on the short list. Having the Andreja has revealed Rocky's shortcomings. Finally, the appearance is stunning. The group is a beautiful chrome and it's all surrounded with polished high grade stainless steel in beautiful rounded edges. It looks fantastic on the countertop and is sure to make a splash when guests see it - it says that "there is serious espresso made here!"Whether you are a newbie to home espresso, or upgrading from a single boiler machine, you will love the Andreja Premium!
